Michael “Buzzy” O’Keeffe opened it in June 1977, when this was a desolate stretch of docks. Hurricane Sandy flooded it in October 2012 and closed it for more than a year. Brad Steelman is the chef.

Built in 1922 for Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio. Jane and David Walentas bought it whole at auction in 1984, Jane restored it in her DUMBO studio, and it opened here on September 16, 2011.

True vintage clothing, vintage Levi’s denim, military deadstock, vintage designer bags, gold and silver jewelry, stationery, tools and home goods, plus the shop’s own designs.

The flagship reopened in March 2026 after a two-month renovation, with more displays, extra fitting rooms and a clearer layout. A second shop, FGS Outpost, is upstairs at 147 Front Street.

Walk the Empire Fulton Ferry boardwalk between the bridges, sit on Pebble Beach in the Main Street section, and look up at the Brooklyn Bridge from Emily Warren Roebling Plaza beneath it.

Lawns, a boardwalk and a picnic grove between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, plus the Max Family Garden inside the Tobacco Warehouse walls. Main Street adds 3.5 acres with a lawn, playground and dog run.

Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates drew the master plan. The park’s first section opened in 2010, and Emily Warren Roebling Plaza, under the Brooklyn Bridge, completed the original plan in 2021. Most upkeep money comes from development sites.

Open 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily; free. Leashed dogs on promenades and paths only; no smoking. Empire Fulton Ferry Lawn is closed until spring 2027; Roebling Rink, the seasonal ice rink, opens November 14, 2026.

Robert Gair’s reinforced concrete factories, built from 1904 to 1914, line the block. In 2007 the Landmarks Preservation Commission found the roadbed ‘very intact Belgian block with minor patches of asphalt.’

The Landmarks Preservation Commission calls the Manhattan Bridge, opened in 1909, ‘a dramatic backdrop for the neighborhood’s industrial architecture.’ This is the block NYC Tourism sends visitors to for that view.
